How to Deal with Laminating Tablet When Using Tablet Press
Oct 09, 2021
The tablet press is a machine that presses dry granular or powdery materials into tablets through a mold. According to different models, tablet presses can be divided into single-punch tablet presses, flower basket tablet presses, rotary tablet presses, sub-high-speed rotary tablet presses, fully automatic high-speed tablet presses and rotary core-spun tablet presses.

Different types of tablet presses have different functions and applications, but they usually encounter the same problem, that is, the laminating tablets. Then what causes the laminating tablets? The main reason is that there is too much fine powder in the particles. There is air in the particles during compression. The speed during compression is relatively fast, and the gap between the punch and the die hole is relatively small, so the air is not removed from the particles during compression, instead it is enclosed in the tablet. When there is no pressure, the air will expand and this will cause laminating tablets.

Ways to deal with laminating tablets occurred in different situations:
1. Excessive pressure
When the pressure on the particles increases, its expansion degree will also increases, and the binding force of the adhesive cannot prevent its expansion, so it will cause laminating tablets. In this case, the pressure should be reduced.
2. The upper punch and die hole do not meet the requirements
The stamping die used for a long time is gradually worn out, which causes the upper punch to be incorrectly aligned with the die hole. The upper punch has a sharp inward curling, and the uneven pressure makes the part of the film excessively compressed, causing capping or distortion of the die ring. In this case, an appropriate mold should be adopted in time.
3. The particles do not meet the requirements
If laminating tablets are caused by loose texture and excessive fine powder, the concentration and dosage of the binder should be adjusted and the granulation method should be improved so as to overcome it. If the granules are too dry and the drug containing crystal water is lost too much so that laminating tablets occurs, the water content of the granules should be controlled according to different varieties during granulation.
4. Improper selection of adhesive
Too little adhesive during granulation and insufficient viscosity will result in too much fine powder after the granules are dried, and the dry granules are too hard, which may cause difficulty in disintegration and pitting on the surface, so the adhesive should be added appropriately. If there is too much fine powder, it is better to sieve some out. If the granules are too hard, it requires to re-granulate and add disintegrant.
